John Krakauer in this book is very caring about everyone even in this horrible situation. He has helped many people, even people who are not on his climbing team. On page 202 this is shown " He looked in serious trouble. 'Which way to the tents?' Andy blurted, frantic to reach the shelter. I pointed in the direction of Camp Four, then warned him about the ice just below us." This is very nice of John because although Andy is not in Krakauer's team he is very caring about everyones health and safety. He also helped this group of people to stay together and work together to not mess things up. On page 200 he says " 'Keep it together, Keep it together, keep it together,' I chanted over and over, mantra-like. 'You can't afford to f*ck things up here. This is way serious. Keep it together.' " Although these remarks are a little harsh he is still concerned about everyone on this horrific journey on Mt.Everest. If this situation ever happened to me I would like to act like John Krakauer but I would probably be freaking out but what I have learned so far to page 203 is to stay calm and work together.

  1. Emma, I completely agree with you. Like you said Jon Krakauer is very caring and is concerned for the safety of others which makes him a great man. Following this it amazes me how focused Jon is, in the book Krakaeur states "in order to succeed you must be exceedingly driven, but if you're too driven your likely to die." This applies to Krakauer, although he is extremely determined to reach the top he does not let his desire to climb get in the way of making descisions that could jeopardize his safety. Ultimately it is this mindset that helps Jon Krakauer reach the top of Mt. Everest.
