Enrique's Journey Blog numba One: Jonah Hausammann

From the moment I sat down and immersed myself into the book known as Enrique's Journey, I was captivated by the simple yet descriptive and detailed work of Sonia Nazario. What makes this book even more intriguing is that it is based upon a true story.
What really catches my eye was when Sonia started to get into the topic of riding the train to get to North Carolina to see his mom, Lourdes. Train Hopping is a very dangerous and lethal journey and it is easy to get robbed by gangsters or worse killed.

Kids as young as seven years old who are poor and alone travel on freight trains to get to America and reunite with their mothers. Their mothers had to leave their kids and come to America in desperate search of jobs to get money and send it back to support their family. It is unbelievable how far these kids will go just to be with their mom. In  Enrique's Journey, She compares their journey to find their mom like " The holy grail " (pg.7).  Riding the train seems terrible. The air is hot and humid and its dark and all you can smell are the freight trains fumes. The only thing you can drink is the puddles of water filled with diesel fuel when the train comes to a halt. To add to the dangerous events of riding the train, there are gangs that rule the top of the trains and you can get killed and robbed by them. In an article from The Fronteras, they call the train that they take, La Bestia "The beast or monster". The name is comprehendable because of how dangerous it is. To stay on the right track to America, you must hop from train to train. Lots of the time people can fall and get shredded by the trains wheels.
I also just wanted add that I really like how Sonia titles each chapter with one word to symbolize the following writing and it keeps me wanting to know what will happen next (seeking mercy for example).   So far (1/3 of the book - on page 100 chapter 4), this book has been really interesting and I am really curious as to how Enrique's turn of events will play out.
