I completely agree with both Sam and Sophia, what is it that makes climbing the worlds tallest mountain so interesting and what causes people to go back and try it again? The main character, Krakauer sets aside his dream to climb the tallest mountain in the world, but when he receives an offer for the second time he decides to return to his dream and pursue his goal.

Many people in the world, come up with their own reasoning as to why they want to fulfill a task of climbing Mount. Everest, but the reasons can always differ for each person. Many successful people who have climbed Mount. Everest and have stated that the reason why they go out to follow their dreams is because the mountain is there. I found in many sherpan (local residents) interviews, (one also from BBC News) despite the life threatening consequences people will still carry on with their goal. The goal to climb the official tallest mountain in the world, Mount. Everest. This causes me to think maybe those who do decide to climb the humongous mountain feel the need to honor someone close to them or even prove to others that they are stronger than they think. Obviously, by saying that you officially and successfully climbed the tallest mountain in the world, you will most definitely catch the attention of many people. According to the dailybeast.com, even though a total of 179 people have died while trying to reach the summit of Mount Everest. (estimated to be 9% of attempts) this will not stop the vigor of enthusiastic mountain climbers from around the world. People still wake up every day and try to complete their dream of climbing the world's greatest mountain.
